About Lifestyle Coaching

Together we will examine and strengthen the components of life that directly impact your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. We will find ways to maximize your strengths as well as identify areas for growth and create a plan to get started and stay in motion with your goals. With curiosity and compassion, we will work together to find ways to create new habits that are directly beneficial to your goals and growth. This can mean stepping out of the comfort zone, but I am here to support and encourage you in each endeavor.

The Foundations of Wellness

Sleep, nutrition, activity, fellowship, purpose, and mindfulness are some of the threads that weave together our day-to-day life experience. None of them has to be perfect, and the goal is not to create a rigid lifestyle that becomes another source of stress.

Instead, we look at which areas are supporting you, which areas are creating friction, and where relatively small changes may have a meaningful impact on your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

The stronger the individual threads become, the stronger the overall safety net. When one part of life becomes difficult, the other supportive areas can help provide stability.

Building Habits That Actually Serve You

Habits are tools. Some of the habits you rely on today may have developed because they helped you solve a problem, soothe distress, create predictability, avoid discomfort, or simply get through a difficult period of life.

Rather than beginning from judgement, we can approach those habits with curiosity. What purpose is this serving? What need sits underneath it? Is there another way to meet that need that works better for the person you are becoming?

The focus is not instant perfection. The focus is building new habits that better serve you and giving those habits enough repetition and support to become part of everyday life.

Change Without an Arbitrary Timeline

One step at a time. There is no universal timeline for changing a behavior, creating a routine, or letting go of a coping strategy that has been part of your life for years.

You are not answering to me. My role is to help you understand what is working, what is not, what you want to change, and what realistic steps could move you toward that goal.

In time, new habits can create a life in which some of the older tools simply become less necessary.

Building Your Capacity to Respond

Life is complicated. Tasks pile up. Emails arrive. Text messages need answers. Dinner still has to happen, and occasionally the dog throws up on the carpet at exactly the wrong moment.

The reality is that life does not always slow down, but we can learn how to slow ourselves down enough to respond more intentionally.

Slowing down does not mean avoiding responsibility. It means developing response-ability: improving your ability to respond to situations rather than feeling constantly pulled from one demand to the next.

That can mean understanding why certain situations affect you the way they do, improving prioritization, creating external systems that reduce cognitive load, and learning practical ways to help your brain keep important things on track.

Strategies Built Around Your Life

A useful coping strategy has to work in your actual life. We can experiment with routines, reminders, boundaries, environmental changes, organizational systems, mindfulness practices, sleep habits, activity, and other approaches to find what genuinely helps you.

The goal is not to force yourself into somebody else's definition of an ideal lifestyle. It is to understand yourself well enough to design habits and systems that support the way you want to live.

Progress is not about doing everything perfectly. It is about creating enough supportive structure that life becomes more manageable, intentional, and sustainable.

If your routines feel unsustainable, your coping strategies are no longer working, or everyday demands keep leaving you overwhelmed, we can identify practical changes that support your psychological and physical wellbeing.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Lifestyle Coaching

golden ginkgo leaf

Lifestyle coaching? Are you going to make me start running and eating celery?

I have never enjoyed celery and have only modestly enjoyed running, so no!

I will, however, encourage you to take a long and meaningful look at the aspects of your life that contribute to wellness.

Sleep, nutrition, activity (notice I did not use the E word), fellowship, purpose, and mindfulness are some of the threads that we weave our day-to-day life experience from.

They do not all have to be perfect. The more we can strengthen them, however, the more harmonious life can become. Even when one aspect is lacking, having other supportive threads helps maintain the safety net that keeps us psychologically well.

What if I am not ready to quit smoking, drinking, shopping, etc.?

One step at a time, my friend.

The habits you are relying on right now are the tools you know. My hope is that in our work together, you will begin to understand what needs those habits are meeting and whether there are other tools that may ultimately serve you better.

There is no specific timeline, and I am not someone you are answering to. I know how difficult it can be to change habits.

Our focus is to help you build new habits that better serve you. In time, you may find that those new habits create a lifestyle in which you no longer need some of the previous tools in the same way.

I feel like I can’t keep up with my life. Tasks pile up and I feel even MORE overwhelmed. How can I improve my ability to manage it all?

Life is complicated; there is no doubt about it. Trying to keep everything organized and operating smoothly is a challenge. Add 40 emails of varying significance, 20 text messages, dinner, and a juicy curve ball when the dog throws up on the carpet, and you may be feeling a bit burnt out.

The reality is that life doesn't always slow down, but we can.

Slowing down doesn't mean avoiding responsibility. It means developing response-ability—improving your ability to respond to situations.

This can involve understanding why things affect you the way they do, developing the skill of prioritizing, building practical systems, and finding ways to help your own brain remember and keep things on track.

The goal is not to expect yourself to manage every demand flawlessly. It is to create systems, habits, and coping skills that make life more manageable while remembering to honor your own needs along the way.
